SEO: 8 Free Sources of Content Inspiration

Researching keyword and social chatter can uncover content ideas — and sources of new revenue. That's what happened with Elmer's glue when it discovered children used the glue for "slime."

One of the hardest aspects of providing meaningful content on ecommerce sites is trying to determine what your audience members read as they’re shopping.

Coming up with ideas for new and compelling content isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Identify consumer desires and problems and solve them. Relax, and explore.

To be sure, generating a content idea is much different than turning the idea into, say, an article, or video, or infographic. But at this point, forget execution and lose yourself in finding the trends and patterns that indicate interest.

When you look for the trends, sometimes you find a windfall. The Elmer’s glue folks hit a home run when they saw the spike in their sales and dug into the source: the “slime” trend. Kids all over America were turning vast quantities of white glue into stretchy goop that can be pulled and twisted without making too large a mess. All Elmer’s had to do was ride the slime wave and offer great kid- and parent-friendly content that people searched for in droves.

When you’re ready to find your own slime-sized content trend, here are eight inspiration sources to investigate.

Sources of Content Inspiration

Keyword research. The first place to start when you’re looking for any content-based concept is Google Keyword Planner. Even though it only contains Google data and not information from the other engines, as the largest search engine it covers a sample size of primary data that’s unmatched by any other keyword tool. To learn more about keyword research, read “SEO How-to, Part 5: Keyword Research in Action.”

Autocomplete suggestion and question tools. As you type a search, Google shows suggestions for phrases it thinks you might be typing based on what other people have typed before you. Mine those other phrases using tools like Ubersuggest and KeywordTool. They return lists of keywords that, unlike keyword research, have no numeric value of search demand associated with each word. You can’t tell how many people are searching for each phrase, but it’s reasonable to assume that there’s enough volume behind the searches or Google wouldn’t bother to suggest them. Answer the Public offers a unique variation on the autocomplete arena, in that it returns all question-based keyword suggestions. These are especially good for determining which burning questions your customers might have regarding your products.

Competitors. What are your competitors doing? What are they missing and how can you do it better? Merely copying what the competition is doing won’t enable you to leapfrog ahead. So look for ways to improve and build on the concepts they have already begun. Let it be a source of initial ideas, not the end product.

One of the best ways to find out who your competitors truly are in natural search, and to identify what they’re doing, is to search for them. Any company that ranks anywhere on page one of the search results, or ahead of you, is a competitor regardless of what industry or niche they’re in.

Amazon questions and reviews. You may or may not sell products on Amazon, but it’s a good bet that someone sells something close to what you sell there. Scan those product reviews for areas that especially please or anger customers, and read the questions for areas that cause confusion. Those are all excellent places to identify customer passions that you can tap into to.

People do not write a review for something they don’t care about. When they do write a review or ask a question, they’re sending anyone who cares to look a signal about what’s really important — positive or negative. When enough of those signals combine on a single topic to interest you, you have something to write about.

Social listening. Social listening is a lot like keyword research — people ask or write about what they care about and push it out to anyone listening. Using free listening tools like Keyhole and Social Mention, enter keywords to identify how people are sharing related information across social networks. Depending on the tool, you’ll see sentiment, gender, related keywords, volume of activity, and the posts themselves. Try using especially interesting keywords you’ve sourced from your keyword research or autocomplete research in your social listening tool.

Sales trends. Dig into areas where your sales exceed expectations, or disappoint. You may already know what some problems or successes are around your product offering, but it’s likely you’ll uncover more using these methods. In addition to using them to create content that your customers will value, share your findings with management. A startling number of companies are blind to customer sentiment in their business strategies. Your research could fuel a larger and necessary change.

Customer service. Just as companies are blind to customer sentiment, marketing tends to be blind to customer support. Those teams work day in and day out with customers who are really excited, or more likely, really angry, about something. Learn what those somethings are. Set up a regular dialog. Creating content that speaks directly to customer support issues — answering the exact questions and complaints they receive the most frequently — will also help reduce the burden on their beleaguered support teams.

Friends and family. Don’t overlook the value of asking around. While they are nowhere close to a representative sample of your customer base, they probably have opinions about things. Ask them what they love and hate about your products or the process of buying your products. Ask them how they would find the products or information you think you want to generate.

What would they search for, and how would they talk about it in social media? Where would they buy it? Or would they even buy it, and if not, why? Promise them you won’t get mad — and keep that promise.

What’s Buzzing?

So many other places exist to find content ideas. Forums specific to your niche, customer-survey data that either has already been collected or will be collected soon, internal search keyword reports, and more.

Much of this is open-ended, free form data that needs to be trawled through and analyzed subjectively. The volume can be overwhelming. Be the judge of when you have enough data to make decisions.

Remember, you’re not looking to identify and solve every problem. You’re looking for a list of likely topics that can be turned into creative concepts. Other potential ideas can be explored in a phase two or three. This is not a one and done. Pick the biggest three or five or 10 and get rolling.

The best way to identify a truly interesting content area is to gather data from multiple sources and look across them all for trends that keep popping up. If people are buzzing about a topic in search, on Amazon reviews, in social, and on YouTube, or across other sources, it’s a pretty safe bet that there’s a large enough audience to target with your content.


200 More railways stations to have free Wi-Fi facility by 2017

After the successful completion of the free WiFi project for 100 railway stations, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu wants to have another 200 stations to go WiFi by 2017.

“More trains would also be provided with Wi-Fi next year,” Prabhu said. “The objective is to have Wi-Fi facility in all railway stations in small cities and towns,” he added. The Minister said steps were also on to construct escalators in stations.

At a function in Thiruvantapuram, the railway minster said, the target is to “double the number” by next year. He also welcomed the Kerala government’s decision to sign a Joint Venture with Railways for development projects in the state. He stated that the merger would lead to cohesive development in the state. About the resources spent he stated that it would be in addition to the funds earmarked in the railway budget.

Prabhu admitted that there was a lack of railway investment in Kerala, and stated that NDA is rooting to reverse this trend. Referring to remittances to the state from Non-Resident Keralites, he said even they could invest in railway projects. “They can develop a railway station”, he said, adding that the key objective was to join hands for development.

Among the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and G Sudhakaran (PWD minister), Prabhu said that the Railways is also looking into the possibility of converting its hospitals to medical college hospitals.

Free download: Weem handwriting font


Serious in intent, legible, playful in style. When designing a font, it can be tough to nail an aesthetic that embodies all three of those things. Well, Gatis Vilaks and Evita Vilaka did it when they created Weem, a free handwriting font for all of your headline and block-of-text needs.

It has that sketchy style you look for in any handwriting font, but is clearly meant to be used in projects with a serious tone. The designers say as much. They also state that it’s intended to be used for titles, headings, and blocks of text.

Despite being free, it’s no “light” version. It comes with all of the characters and punctuation you might expect, in upper and lower case. It also has all of the accent marks, umlauts, and extra lines or squiggles you might need when writing in languages that aren’t English.

Overwatch Free Trial Could Be Introduced

Game developer Blizzard could potentially be considering the introduction of a free trial for its successful team-based first-person shooter Overwatch.

During ChinaJoy 2016, which is arguably the country’s largest gaming and digital entertainment exhibition, NetEase president Li Riqiang talked about Overwatch, and discussed his company’s partnership with the game’s developer Blizzard. Over the course of the conference, Li eventually brought up the studio’s plans to possibly introduce a trial for Overwatch sometime in the near future.

According to Li, the plans for a free Overwatch trial haven’t been completely solidified as of yet, but it is an option Blizzard is considering in order to expand the first-person shooter’s fan base. With the game already being extremely popular, as it garnered more than 7 million players in its first weekalone, should the developer decide to implement a demo, Overwatch could see its community grow exponentially.

For those unaware, NetEase is Blizzard’s Chinese partner and was the publisher of Overwatch in the country, so for Li to mention a free trial as being a potentiality, it’s foreseeable as coming to fruition soon, especially with the companies currently dedicating time to figure out how it could work. Unfortunately, though, no exact window was given as to when fans should expect a demo to make its way into the market.

Although Overwatch is a fan favorite and received plenty ofpositive reviews upon its release, one point of contention held among critics and regular players alike is that Blizzard set the game’s price upon launch far too high, as many considered its day one content to be too meager for an initial $60 purchase. However, the development team has managed to stay on top of a lot of the title’s persistent bugs by quickly releasing repair patches and improving ranked play, which would hopefully be reflected in the trial should it be released.

Not to mention, with Blizzard expanding Overwatch‘s roster by incorporating heroes like the support sniper Ana and pledging to add even more, now would be a great time for the studio to release a trial so as to let gamers see how far the release has come. Since the title is being updated on an almost constant basis, allowing fans who are unfamiliar with Overwatch‘s gameplay to take part in the action and get their bearings with a free demo would more than likely result in a sales spike for the game.

Even though it should speak for itself that Overwatch is considered by a lot of fans to be one of the top games of 2016 so far, giving gamers who haven’t experienced it the chance to play it for free is definitely a winning formula that will translate into sales. With that being the case, a lot of other companies would do well to at least implement demos for games at some point in their life cycle, especially since it was once considered to be standard practice for studios to put out free trials prior to release.

Still want Windows 10 for free? Here’s how changing the clock will enable the free upgrade again

The free upgrade to Windows 10 ended on July 29th, however, as expected, not everyone had taken the chance to upgrade. Luckily for them, it appears they may not need to shell out $119/$199 to upgrade to Windows 10. According to YouTuber vwestlife, simply changing your system’s clock to July 28th will re-activate the Upgrade Prompt and allow the upgrade to be started.

Once the clock has been changed to July 28th, the prompt will provide the option to start the upgrade. After clicking that, it will begin downloading Windows 10 and the installation will commence.

For those wondering if this actually works – it does, according to a Redditor, who was previously suspicious of whether this trick would work or not. Entering a Windows 7 key into Windows 10 also still works.

It is not clear how long this trick will work for; it is possible that Microsoft has a grace period, in which it will still accept activations for those people where downloading took a little longer to complete, however, if you missed the deadline to upgrade for free and still wish to do so – give this a try!

New Mac Pro 2016 release date rumours: Issues surface regarding Late 2013 Mac Pro GPU, Apple offering free fix

The current Mac Pro was first unveiled just over two and a half years ago at WWDC in June 2013. It took another six months before Apple was able to start selling it (and a few more months for some customers to start to receive their units). Two years on, for a ‘top of the range Mac’ the Mac Pro is looking rather long in the tooth.

In this article we will be looking at rumours surrounding the new Mac Pro  release date, and features and specs we hope to see in the 2016 version of the Mac Pro.

The good news, for those hoping to upgrade to a new Mac Pro soon, is that code in El Capitan is hinting that a new Mac Pro with 10 USB 3 ports could arrive soon; new Intel Xeon Skylake chips have arrived.

On-the-other-hand, perhaps the Mac Pro should just be discontinued. A Mac Observer story suggests that it’s been a flop. It might just be time for Apple to go back to the drawing board if it is to save what appears to be an unpopular Mac.

New Mac Pro 2016 rumours: When is the new Mac Pro coming out?

Apple hasn’t announced a launch date for the next generation of Mac Pro systems, so we have to do a little detective work.

First up, code in OS X El Capitan is hinting that a new Mac Pro may be on its way soon. There is a reference to a new Mac that is code named “AAPLJ951” within El Capitan, according to Pike’s Universum.

The current Mac Pro is codenamed AAPLJ90 so there is some logic to this new reference being a new version of the professional-level workstation.

Another clue that this is the Mac Pro is the fact that the code hints that there are 10 USB 3.0 ports. Currently there are 4 USB ports and 6 Thunderbolt 2 ports on the Mac Pro. We think that adopting Thunderbolt 3 on the Mac Pro may make more sense as it brings Thunderbolt to USB-C at 40Gbps, for the best of both worlds, more on that below…

There are rumours that Apple wil hold an event in March 2016 at which it will unveil the new Apple Watch 2, an iPhone 6c, and possibly an updated MacBook Air. Although it is possible that Apple would also show off a new Mac Pro at that event, it seems unlikely, given the fact that the Mac Pro is a professional Mac and that event sounds very consumer focused.

Will Apple discontinue the Mac Pro?

Maybe the Mac Pro will never be updated. As The Mac Observer writes: “The ‘New’ Mac Pro is a Failure”. That site compares it to the ill fated Cube which was available for less than a year in 2000/2001.

Many professional Mac users are still using old Mac Pros from pre 2012 mainly because they are easily upgradable, with options for larger capacity drives (2TB or 4TB or more). You can even get a 12-core 3.46GHz processor in the older model that could give the newer, 2.7GHz 12-core processor in the 2013 Mac Pro a run for its money. As for video card options, the old Mac Pro has many more.

Those who did upgrade to the ‘new’ trashcan-like Mac Pro are also finding that the need for multiple expansion cards and external drives are cluttering up their desks, where previously these extras could be neatly concealed inside the Mac Pro chassis.

For all Apple’s claims about it being a powerful machine, it appears that the Mac Pro is just not considered a professional workstation by the intended market.

Incidentally, Apple has been granted a patent for the Mac Pro, specifically for the structure and organization of internal components and external interfaces for a compact computing system, according to a report on Patently Apple.

Possible delays with the new Mac Pro

If the new Mac Pro is delayed, it wouldn’t be the first time. Apple first unveiled the Intel Xeon (Ivy Bridge-E)-based Mac Pro at it’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in June 2013, although the unit didn’t actually start shipping until December that year – in fact for most shoppers the supply of Mac Pro was so constrained that they didn’t receive their new Mac until 2014 – in come cases not until February or March.

One reason for the delays back in 2013 was thought to be the fact that Apple was building the new-look Mac Pro in the USA. It may well be that updates to the current model are also being plagued by the same issues that slowed the production lines back in 2013.

We had hoped to hear news about a new Mac Pro in the summer of 2015, so we’re growing impatient and are hoping for an update soon.

That said, the reason for the delays in updating this Mac could be lack of interest in this workstation-style Mac. Apple may be focusing attention on other projects such as the Retina iMac, which was updated in October. It’s possible that Apple doesn’t intend to update the Mac Pro at all. It has launched several other new Macs since the launch of the Mac Pro, including impressively powerful iMacs that can sometimes perform better than the current entry-level Mac Pro can. Video editor Max Yuryevtested Final Cut and Premiere Pro rendering on both the 5K Retina iMac and 6 Core Mac Pro and found that the iMac performed better in some cases, although did suffer from heating issues that the Mac Pro avoids thanks to its design.

But we don’t think Apple is trying to phase out the Mac Pro in favour of a more powerful iMac line-up. It’s more likely that it’s just spending a long time getting the new Mac Pro just right before it launches after the issues it experiences with the previous launch. There is still a market for the more powerful Mac Pro, which is upgradable and if you’ve got the budget for a high-end model can be incredibly powerful, fast and reliable.


New Mac Pro 2016: ports

The current Mac Pro sports six Thunderbolt 2 ports, which means this Mac can be connected to up to three 4K displays.

There’s also 4 USB 3 ports; Dual Gigabit Ethernet; and an HDMI 1.4 UltraHD, as well as a combined optical digital audio output/analog line out mini-jack; headphone mini-jack with headset support; HDMI port supports multi-channel audio output and a built-in speaker.

Code in the El Capitan beta actually suggests that the next generation Mac Pro will offer 10 USB 3.0 ports. Currently there are 4 USB 3 ports and 6 Thunderbolt 2 ports on the Mac Pro.

We think that it would make more sense if Apple adopts Thunderbolt 3 on the Mac Pro – this standard of Thunderbolt supports USB Type-C and offers 40Gbps transfer speeds, so Mac PRo users would get the best of both worlds. Thunderbolt 3 offers double the speed of USB 3.1, which is only 10Gbps.

Another thing Apple could add is a Lightning port as seen on the iPhone. Yes really. There are rumours that the lightning port will be used on Macs for plugging in headphones which could allow for high-res audio.

However, many traditional Mac PRo users are still calling out for PCI slots whcih would allow users to add faster SSDs and better video cards. Some even ask for internal drive bays, with Mac Observer noting that a 3.5in hard drive bay would allow for archival space to be added.

New Mac Pro 2016: new Xeon E5 v3 ‘Grantley’ processor

The 2013 Mac Pro features Intel’s Xeon E5 V2 processors (code-named Romley) offering up to 12 cores (as a build-to-order option). Back in September 2014 new Xeon E5 V3 chips (code-named Grantley) started shipping – bringing the Haswell architecture to pro workstations. At the time we thought the processor would soon make their way to the Mac Pro, but no upgrade emerged.

Those Intel Xeon E5 V3 chips were being used in Dell’s new Xeon Precision Tower (5810, 7810 and 7910) – find out more on Dell’s website. These Dell workstations use the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processor series featuring either 14 or 18 cores per processor.

The processors in the current Mac Pros are configurable up to 3.5GHz for a six-core option, 3.0GHz for an 8-core option, and 2.7GHz for a 12-core option. We may see a slight boost in these numbers, but we could equally see the same clock speeds, with the processors themselves being faster.

It is possible that the new Mac Pro will, like the Dell above, offer an option of 14 or 18 cores.

New Mac Pro 2016: new Xeon E5 v4 processor

It is likely that Apple has been waiting for the next generation of E5 chips. Intel’s Xeon E3-1200 V4 (Broadwell) launched this summer and these may be destined for the Mac Pro. Alternatively the equivalent E3-1200 V5 (Skylake) Xeon processors launched at the end of October and may be Apple’s processors of choice for the new model.

According to WCCFTECH, these future Xeons will offer a greatly improved micro architecture, better graphics, better DDR4 support and capactity for more RAM.

The Xeon E3-1200v4 launched at Computex 2015 at the beginning of June 2015, but Anandtech stated that: “It looks like the current Xeon E3-1200 v4 is somewhat a niche product”, emphasising that along with being a chip for workstations with moderate graphics power, it should be ideal for video transcoding.”

New Mac Pro 2016 specs

Currently there are two standard Mac Pro models available along with various build to order options:

Quad-Core and Dual GPU: 3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor; 12GB1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory; Dual AMD FirePro D300 with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM each; and 256GB PCIe-based flash storage.

6-Core and Dual GPU: 3.5GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor; 16GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory; Dual AMD FirePro D500 with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM each; 256GB PCIe-based flash storage.

It seems likely that Apple will update the Mac Pro with the next generation Intel Xeon E5 processor described above, we may also see more RAM in the entry-level version, now that the 15-inch MacBook Pro range ship with 16GB as standard. We’ll go into more detail below.

New Mac Pro 2016: graphics

The 2013 Mac Pro features dual workstation-class GPUs. The Dual AMD FirePro D300 with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM each in the Quad-Core version, and Dual AMD FirePro D500 with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM each in the 6-Core model. There’s also a build-to-order option of the Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each (an extra £480).

AMD showcased new its new FirePro W-series at Siggraph in August 2014. The FirePro W7100, W5100 may find their way into the new Mac Pro.

Alternatively there are significantly faster graphics based on AMD’s Fury platform that may be destined for the new Mac Pro.

Update (08/03/2016): After a thread on the Apple Support Communities website amassed a huge response when complaining about faulty graphics cards in the Late 2013 Mac Pro, Apple admitted that a number of Mac Pro’s have faulty cards and that affected customers could have the issue fixed free of charge. To be legible for a free repair, you must have encountered “distorted video, no video, system instability, freezing, restarts, shutdowns” or system startup failure.

It’s not all Mac Pro’s though, only those manufactured between February 8 and April 11 2015, and the issue can be fixed by taking your damaged Mac Pro to an Apple Store. Interestingly, MacRumours notes that the issues are known to exist with the AMD FirePro D500 and D700 GPUs, with the AMD FirePro D300 being completely unaffected.

Will these issues force Apple into choosing another graphic card manufacturer for the next Mac Pro? While there are no rumours online that suggest so, we think a change could be on the cards for the Mac Pro GPU.

Currently you will find 256GB PCIe-based flash storage as standard in both standard Mac Pro models, with an option to add 512GB SSD for £240 or 1TB SSD for £640.

We’d like to see more storage as standard on the Mac Pro as the target audience do tend to be working with very large files. We’d like to see an option for 2TB flash storage.

New Mac Pro 2016: RAM

The new Xeon E5 V3 Grantley chips are said to have DDR4 memory controllers, so you can expect even faster memory in this year’s new Mac Pro.

The current models offer 12GB RAM in the Quad-Core model, and 16GB in the 6-Code model as standard. You can add 32GB Ram at point of purchase for £320, or a massive 64GB RAM for £960. As we mention above, the 15-inch MacBook Pro now comes with 16GB RAM as standard, so we would hope that the updated entry-level Mac Pro would match that.

64GB RAM might sound like a lot to you, but some of these Dell workstations can accommodate up to 1TB of DDR4 RAM. We hope that the next generation of Mac Pros will be configurable to more than 64GB (four slots of 16GB). Yosemite is apparently able to make good use of the extra RAM.

Availability of the Mac Pro – delays

When Apple launches the new updated Mac Pro there may well be delays in availability as there were in 2013-2014, as the company attempted to ramp up production in its new, US based, facility.

When the new look Mac Pro launched it was plagued by delays, with availability slipping initially to January, then February, March and eventually April in some cases, before Apple was able to meet demand.

Having previewed the Mac Pro at WWDC in June 2013, the company promised availability before the end of 2013, but it wasn’t until 19 December that the Mac Pro became available. Then, following the launch, stocks were so limited that only a lucky few, US based, customers were able to purchase the new professional Mac workstation before the end of 2013.

Customers in the UK who ordered their new Mac on 19 December 2014 found that they would have to wait until January 2015 for the new Mac Pro. Some lucky UK customers finally received their Mac Pro around 12 January. This was almost a year after the old version of the Mac Pro was banned over in Europe because it didn’t comply with EU electrical safety laws.

Luckily the wait for the current Mac Pro isn’t quite so long now, with shipping for the standard versions “within 24 hours” according to Apple’s website. If you want a build-to-order version the wait will be about 5-7 business days.

The fact that Apple is no longer struggling to meet demand would suggest that when it launches there will not be the significant delays in getting units out to customers that there were with the Mac Pro at the beginning of 2013. Apple had a new design which was being produced at an entirely new factory in the US, so the delays were understandable, although maybe not excusable.

Where can I buy a Mac Pro?

Other than directly from Apple, you will be able to buy the new Mac Pro from Apple Premium Resellers such as Stormfront, Square Group, Solutions Inc, iStore, Western Computer, MR Systems, KRCS, HardSoft, and PC World. You can find an Apple Premium Reseller near you by searching on Apple’s site.

UK pricing for the Mac Pro

Currently the Mac Pro starts at £2,499 (£2,082.50 ex VAT) in the UK for a quad-core 3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor with 10 MB L3 cache and Turbo Boost up to 3.9 GHz, 12GB RAM, Dual AMD FirePro D300 with 2GB of VRAM and 256GB of flash storage.

There is also a 6-core model with 3.5GHz Xeon E5, 16GB RAM, two AMD FirePro D500 cards with 3GB of VRAM, and 256GB flash storage for £3,299.

The data protection authority of France has fined Google by €100,000 (Rs. 74,64,700 approx.) for inadequate removal of history data and activities related to personal web searches. In accordance to a ruling by the European Court of Justice in May 2014, individuals received the power of asking search engine monitors like Google and Microsoft to remove irrelevant and inappropriate information related to web search results. This ruling gave rise to the ‘Right to be Forgotten’ — a right that has since been debated on regarding its status as a special provision or as one of the fundamental human rights.

In an issued statement, the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertes (CNIL) stated that “the only way for Google to uphold the Europeans’ right to privacy was by delisting inaccurate results popping up under name searches across all its websites.” However, in counter-argument, Google stated that removal of past data from the entirety of the Internet means restricting free flow of information across the virtual web. This may (read: will) have massive implications in relation to information sourcing, that often plays critical role in precedence across multiple cases. As a result, Google removed data of specific requests from its local websites, and not the international platform. For instance, if it were applicable in India, an Indian’s request to enforce his/her right to be forgotten would lead to the removal of the relevant URL only from, and not This has been done to preserve the sanctity of natural course of action, i.e., a proper reflection of reality wherein an action done in the past cannot be undone under any circumstance.

The question of privacy looms large, as does the question of removing actions that may hold importance

The CNIL, however, has disagreed on this term. “Applying delisting to all of the extensions does not curtail freedom of expression insofar as it does not entail any deletion of content from the Internet,” the body stated. To provide a solution to the claims of the European Union and keep its principal operating ways fluent, Google decided upon faux removal of information wherein a person will not see the data he/she requested to be removed when accessing the search engine from his country. For instance, a French national will not see the link requested to be removed across all of Google’s sites, when accessing the data from within France. Such action was taken in order to solve security concerns of a nation, while keeping the international access of data intact. “As a matter of principle, we disagree with the CNIL’s assertion that it has the authority to control the content that people can access outside France, and we plan to appeal their ruling,” a Google spokesman told Reuters.

The fine has been imposed after the French data protectors decided that right to privacy of personal information cannot be adequately confined in terms of geographical locations, and “only delisting on all of the search engine’s extensions, regardless of the extension used or the geographic origin of the person performing the search, can effectively uphold this right.” It will be interesting to see the next course of actions that Google takes in accordance to the Right to be Forgotten.

Contested: Should the Right to be Forgotten be allowed easy enforcement?

More countries have been recognising the Right to be Forgotten as an effective ruling, with Japan citing the right against Google in a lawsuit, where a man was accused of involvements with child pornography. While the question of privacy and the amount of information available in the hands of search engine giants is a pertaining question demanding wider, concrete rulings (which, incidentally, is difficult to enforce), the presence of information on the Internet has aided multiple instances of straightening affairs of crimes and legal involvements.

The path, as it seems, can be wider than a mere fine and singular lawsuits.
