Look Out Spotify, Apple Music: Tesla Considering To Launch Its Own Music Streaming Service

Spotify and Apple Music may soon find a new challenger in the music streaming service industry from an unlikely source: electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.

According to reports, Tesla has been speaking with the music industry on the possibility of creating its own music streaming service that will be bundled with its electric vehicles.

Tesla To Enter Music Streaming Scene?

Sources in the music industry claim that Tesla has spoken with all the major music labels on licensing a music streaming service. The service will be bundled with the company’s vehicles, such as the electric sedan Model S, the electric SUV Model X, and the upcoming mass-market electric sedan Model 3.

The full scope of Tesla’s ambitions was not made clear, but sources believe that the company is looking to offer multiple tiers for the planned music streaming service. The tiers will start with a web radio service, such as the one offered by Pandora, which will be enabled by the internet connectivity already present in Tesla’s electric vehicles through their dashboards.

The whole plan is seemingly not yet fully formed, but Tesla is already doing its due diligence by asking about acquiring the rights to stream albums and songs from the top artists from all over the world.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk actually hinted that the company was exploring music products at the latest shareholder meeting of the company in June. He said that it was difficult to “find good playlists or good matching algorithms” for music that drivers want to hear while on the road, and that the company will be announcing how it will solve the problem within the year.

Why Will Tesla Challenge Spotify And Apple Music?

The big question is why Tesla is planning to go through the trouble of creating its own music streaming service, when it can instead integrate Spotify or Apple Music into its electric vehicles. Tesla already has a deal in place to include Spotify in electric vehicles sold outside the United States, so such a setup can be done if the company wants to.

The labels will not turn down Tesla’s overtures if it pushes through with creating its own music streaming service, as it will be another source of revenue. From the comment of a Tesla spokesperson, it appears that the company is indeed serious about its plans.

“We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose,” the spokesperson said, adding that Tesla’s goal is to “achieve maximum happiness” for its customers.

While Tesla is considered as the market leader in the burgeoning electric car industry, it will be jumping into a music streaming space that is currently dominated by Spotify, with 50 million premium subscribers, followed by Apple Music, with 27 million paid users and looking to pose a bigger challenge to Spotify by launching a $99 annual subscription option.

How Tesla’s music streaming service will stand up against these two remains to be seen, but it will have to offer something beyond the usual features if it wants to make a significant impression in the industry.

Apple may eventually launch ‘iGlass’ smart glasses for augmented reality, UBS speculates

Tim Cook, CEO, speaks during Apple's annual world wide developer conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California, U.S. June 5, 2017.

Apple may leverage augmented reality on the iPhone to help pave the way for a future smart glasses product, UBS said in a note to investors Tuesday.

Apple recently launched its ARKit developer tools, which will allow its partners to build new augmented reality applications for millions of iPhones already in the hands of consumers. It will give Apple an overnight leg up on companies like Google that are participating in the space on a much smaller scale.

Apple hasn’t participated in the smart glasses space yet, but the idea is that a user will be able to wear a special pair of glasses that overlays computer images over the real world. You might learn more about a restaurant, perhaps view its menu, by standing in front of it, for example.

Right now, companies like Apple and Google would be forced to create bulky glasses that wouldn’t be feasible or comfortable to wear. UBS believes Apple could use AR-ready iPhones to power the experience.

“Advanced sensors and camera capabilities will enhance the iPhone; eventually there could be independent hardware offerings, perhaps iGlass,” UBS analyst Steven Milunovich said. “We can imagine a pair of glasses with quintessential Apple design (iGlass), which enable a Hololens-type experience,” the company said, referring to Microsoft’s bulky alternative.

“However, the amount of compute power and sensors required likely pose a serious design challenge. If Apple could find a way to send massive amounts of data from the eyeglasses to the iPhone where the bulk of the compute would occur, the eyewear could have a more attractive design. The issue then becomes how to transfer massive amounts of complex data between devices quickly.”

Milunovich laid out 10 AR use cases ranging from games and entertainment to home improvement and health care/medical diagnostics. It said AR will help Apple retain iPhone users.

Nintendo President Defends ‘Weak’ Switch Launch Line-Up

Nintendo President Defends ‘Weak’ Switch Launch Line-Up

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima defends the Nintendo Switch’s launch line-up, pledging that the system won’t experience the same software droughts that have plagued its predecessors.

When Nintendo unveiled the Switch earlier this month, many were convinced of the company’s vision for a system that blurred the line between home console and portable device. However, the potential of the hardware itself was tempered by a launch line-up that doesn’t give early adopters much to be excited about.

It’s clear that Nintendo is banking on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to give fans a reason to buy the console on day one. The company’s only other first-party release scheduled for launch day is 1-2-Switch, and the rest of its intial library is fleshed out by third-party titles like Super Bomberman R, Skylanders: Imaginators, and The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+.

As such, it’s easy to see why Nintendo has received some criticism for an underwhelming array of games to convince gamers to get on board with the Switch as soon as possible. Now, the company’s president Tatsumi Kimishima has spoken out against these comments.

“Some of those who have seen this line-up have expressed the opinion that the launch line-up is weak,” said Kimishima during an earnings call earlier this week, according to a report from Gamespot. It seems that the company’s strategy hinges around a steady stream of content coming after launch day.

“Our thinking in arranging the 2017 software lineup is that it is important to continue to provide new titles regularly without long gaps,” he explained. “This encourages consumers to continue actively playing the system, maintains buzz, and spurs continued sales momentum for Nintendo Switch.”

Software droughts have certainly been a problem for Nintendo in the past. Both the Wii U and the 3DS experienced stretches without compelling releases in their early years — although it’s fair to say that the 3DS managed to overcome these hurdles much more convincingly than the Wii U did.

It’s good to see Nintendo’s management thinking about its long-term plans for the Switch, rather than focusing all their efforts on a successful launch. Hopefully this strategy comes to fruition, and we see high-profile titles like Super Mario Odyssey meet their expected release date and debut within the first year of the console’s lifespan.

Nintendo is certainly doing a good job of promoting its new console, and the concept behind the Switch could help the hardware carve out its own niche. However, a strong software library is essential if the system is to avoid the pitfalls that sank the Wii U.

Apple Pay UK launch: Apple Pay UK launch details

Apple Pay officially launched in the UK on 14 July 2015. A first tier of UK banks offered Apple Pay support immediately (including NatWest, Santander and Nationwide), but a second wave will have to wait until later in the year.

Apple Pay’s UK launch came roughly nine months after the US launch of Apple Pay on 20 October 2014, as part of the iOS 8.1 update. Apple Pay saw 1 million activations in its first three days, according to Apple.

The service also launched in France in July 2016, nearly exactly a year after its UK introduction. This took the total number of countries enjoying Apple Pay to eight. Much like other roll-outs, it won’t be available with every major bank, highlighting the same consumer frustration attached to previous launches.

We’re not sure how quickly retailers will adapt to the service. The experiences of our colleagues at Macworld US suggests that it will take a few weeks for the training to kick in, and that the early days will see more than a few shop assistants (and iPhone owners) struggling to cope with the new technolog

Apple Pay launch date: When will Apple Pay launch around the rest of the world?

As a UK-based site, we were most interested in Apple Pay’s British launch. But we do have readers hailing from other nations, many of whom are keen to know when they’ll be able to use Apple Pay.

Canada & Australia

Apple Pay launched in the US first of all; here in the UK we were second to join the party. The service has since launched in Canada, and will launch in Australia on Thursday 26th November 2015. There is one caveat: in both Canada and Australia Apple Pay is available only for American Express customers.

Canada has long been ruymoured as an imminent Apple Pay launch venue. Back in April it was reported that Apple Pay was set for a Canadian rollout in autumn 2015, with the Cupertino company in talks with six Canadian banks.

My colleague Caitlin McGarry (writing from the US) reported that “Apple picked Canada as its test case for expansion for two main reasons: iPhones are incredibly popular up north and Canadian merchants have already moved to Near-Field Communication-equipped payment terminals, which Apple Pay requires.”

Belgium

A careless tweet from a Belgian bank recently suggested that, against expectations, that country might be the next part of Europe to start accepting Apple Pay.

KBC responded to an individual query by stating, quite matter-of-factly, that “this will be possible as of this summer. Have a nice day.” We wish other tech rumours could be dealt with in this sort of way.

New fifth-gen Apple TV 2016 release date & features rumours: ‘Something bigger’ on the way for Apple TV, says Tim Cook | Apple TV 5 launch rumoured for late 2016

New Apple TV release date & new features rumours

When will Apple release the next Apple TV – the fifth-generation Apple TV – in the UK? And what new features, tech specs and design changes should we expect from the new 5G Apple TV for 2016 or 2017?

The fourth-gen Apple TV – the first Apple TV device to allow users to install apps – was unveiled by Apple at the iPhone 6s launch event on 9 September 2015, and went onsale weeks later. Nearly a year later, we’re looking ahead to the launch of the next, fifth-gen (5G) Apple TV. Indeed, there are already rumours that a next-generation Apple TV might arrive in late 2016, although Apple could also be waiting until next year to release a special 10th-anniversary model.

In this article we gather all the evidence related to the fifth-gen Apple TV’s launch date, as well as reporting on all the rumours and clues about the 2016 Apple TV’s new features, tech specs and design changes. However, if you’re (understandably) still interested in the Apple TV that’s available right now, we’ve got plenty of information about the 2015 Apple TV, including pricing and the best places to buy.

Updated, 27 July 2016, to discuss Tim Cook’s enigmatic comments about the future of the Apple TV at Apple’s Q3 financial results call.

New Apple TV 2016 release date rumours: When will Apple release the 5th-gen Apple TV?

Our money is on autumn 2016, although Apple may choose to hold it back until the start of 2017 and make more of the product’s 10th anniversary.

Here’s when the four generations of Apple TV launched:

  • 1st-gen Apple TV: January 2007
  • 2nd-gen Apple TV: September 2010
  • 3rd-gen Apple TV: March 2012
  • 4th-gen Apple TV: September 2015

Evidently, Apple updates its Apple TV less often than its iPhones, iPads and Macs: there was a three-and-a-half-year wait between the first and second models, and between the third and fourth. Based on that, it would be reasonable to expect the 5G Apple TV to appear in 2018 or even 2019, and we certainly don’t have firm evidence to dispute that.

But our instincts tell us that the Apple TV’s position and status in the company’s portfolio of products has changed. It used to be a sideline and a hobby, but with the growing importance of streaming media and smart-home applications, and with the arrival on the platform of games and its own App Store, Apple TV is moving to centre stage.

And we’re not the only ones to think Apple is likely to start updating the TV more frequently from now on.

A report (link for subscribers only) in DigiTimes last year predicted that the fifth-generation Apple TV would go into trial production as early as December 2015, with volume production starting in the first quarter of 2016. Changes were said to include a dramatically improved hardware performance and new functions “to help it no longer serve only as a set-top box”.

Q3 2016 earnings call comments: ‘Something bigger’ on the way

Tim Cook made some non-specific but intriguing comments about the future of the Apple TV at Apple’s Q3 2016 earnings conference call. He made it very clear that Apple has big plans for its TV division, and plans to build “something bigger” with the product and surrounding ecosystem.

Near the end of the hour-long call, a question was posed by Kulbinder Garcha, the managing director of Credit Suisse:

“I think about some of the comments you’ve made about the TV market and how it’s been stuck in the sixties and seventies, and the experience hasn’t changed,” Garcha said. “I understand that you’ve got the Apple TV box out, but in terms of driving actual video-on-demand services, is that something Apple wants to do themselves, do you want to partner, could you even build content? How do you think about that as an actual business opportunity, as opposed to, here’s an Apple box and we sell some units but it’s not that meaningful to the overall company in terms of size?”

Tim Cook’s reply was enigmatic.

“The introduction of Apple TV and tvOS in last October and the subsequent OS releases and what’s coming out this fall… think of that as building the foundation for what we believe can be a broader business over time,” he said.

“I don’t want to be more precise than that but you shouldn’t look at what’s there today and think we’ve done what we want to do. We’ve built a foundation that we can do something bigger off of.”

New Apple TV release date: WWDC 2016 and tvOS 10

Back in spring we argued that the 5G Apple TV was unlikely to be launched at WWDC 2016, since the event came round less than a year after Apple rolled out the fourth-gen model and none of the previous Apple TVs had launched in summer. Indeed, Apple launched no new hardware at the event whatsoever. But the new version of the Apple TV’s operating system, tvOS 10, got considerable stage time. As we often observe when discussing new iPhones and iPads, many of the most significant updates come not from new hardware but from free software updates.

Siri gets some big improvements in tvOS’s new update: it can now search the Apple TV’s movie and TV database with more complex queries. It can search YouTube, too, and any live streaming channels can be launched by saying “watch” and then the name of the channel. There’s a new dark mode for Apple TV, which makes the background black instead of the bright white we’re used to. And the Apple TV Remote app has been redesigned; it now offers all the Siri remote features and can be used for Siri queries using the built-in mic.

(Speaking of the Remote app, did you know that there’s a SiriMote app that’s been designed to let you control your Mac with an Apple TV Siri Remote? You’ll be able to use the app and Siri Remote together to control playback on your Mac, but accordingto Apple Insider the setup is difficult. The app is free and works with El Capitan. You can download it from Eternal Storms at eternalstorms.at.)

One last thing Apple didn’t mention, but has since come to light in Apple support documents, is that the requirement for Siri Remote compatibility for Apple TV games has been relaxed. That means they can focus on MFi game controllers, which are much more game-friendly than the Siri remote. See: Best Apple TV game controllers.

Read our Complete guide to tvOS’s new features for more information on the software update.

New Apple TV release date: 10th-anniversary Apple TV

Looking again at those launch dates above, we feel like the looming tenth anniversary of the Apple TV might be a tempting occasion for a big update. Apple tends to dislike historical wallowing – famously refusing to build a museum in its new headquarters because “we’re focused on the future, not the past” – but there is a precendent for an anniversary product in the form of the Twentieth Anniversary Mac (number 4 in our article The 5 weirdest Macs of all time).

iOS 10 compatibility

iOS 10 is coming for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, unless of direction you’ve got an age-old cellphone or tablet that still makes use of the 30-pin dock connector or is an older iPod touch.
it truly is where Apple attracts the brand new line within the sand for 2016. Its drawing close cellular working gadget replace won’t help for iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPod touch 5th gen.

it’s now not a big marvel. further to their non-lightning connections, these gadgets consist of 512MB of RAM and stuck around for iOS 9 when we concept that they had be axed from that replace ultimate year.
iOS 10 enhance to wake

Apple redesigned the iPhone and iPad lockscreen, giving us the biggest revision for the reason that first iPhone 9 years ago. Slide to unencumber is long past and replaced with simple commands: “Press domestic to open.”

iOS 10

iOS 10

what’s been delivered is the capacity to raise your iPhone to wake it, fixing the all-too-commonplace difficulty of blowing beyond lockscreen notifications whilst you hit the fast TouchID domestic button.

this is a top notch answer that we’ve seen on a select range of Android telephones, like the Google Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, and it almost reminds me of flicking my wrist to mild up the Apple Watch.

this is the sleeper hit of iOS 10 this is going to trade your each day iPhone recurring.
wealthy lockscreen notifications

you will see that notifications are damaged up into bubbles now and use 3D touch to reveal hidden menu movementssimply tough press on a calendar invite alert and you’ll be capable of be given or decline it.

iOS 10

three-D touch-enabled iOS 10 notifications paintings even higher for Messages. you could straight away respond to messages as quickly as you choose up your smartphone, with out ever leaving the lockscreen. it’s all done inline.

No more digging round the house display screen and layers of app menus to check critical information. when you have a doorbell digicam notification, you can see who’s at the the front door, use the intercom or liberate the door.

iOS 10

This “peeking at apps” capability via the lockscreen isn’t always confined to Apple’s first-birthday celebration apps. Uber is just one 0.33birthday celebration app maker that allows you to tough press on notifications. you’ll get live updates on where your driving force is on a map – usually headed in the other direction.
clear all notifications button

What may be the great alternate to iOS 10 notifications is the ability to clear all of your old notifications with three-D touch. Swiping them away separately or brushing off them in organizations is a time-eating mess in iOS nine.

iOS 10

simply hard press that little “x” icon in the redesigned (and now devoted) notifications pulldown menu and tap the “clear all” box that pops up. tap it once to simply dismiss the organization of notifications.

it’s first-rate easy to clean away expired alerts with iOS 10 and it’ll please everybody inflicted with cellphone notification-clearing OCD.
control center is decluttered

The swipe-up-from-the-bottom manage center overlay menu has a modern day appearance that helps declutters the format in iOS 10, and it’s something Apple customers were asking for.

iOS 10 launch date

It once again functions four app shortcuts alongside the lowest (flashlight, stopwatch, calculator and digital camera app) and moves the fifth Beatle, night time Shift, to a new, bigger spot above the quartet.

That fixes an trouble in which people said having 5 app shortcuts in that backside row, a brief-lived concept that occurred when night time Shift debuted in iOS 9.3, made the buttons a tad too small.

iOS 10

bigger AirPlay and AirDrop buttons seem above night Shift, too, even as toggles for aircraft mode, WiFi, Bluetooth, Do now not Disturb and Orientation lock are unchanged (except for his or her new blue hue whilst on).

however what occurred to the music controls? Slide right at the control middle, and there is a dedicated pane for the volume, playback and device output controls, or even tune album cover artwork.
Lockscreen digicam and ‘widgets’

it is less complicated than ever to turn on the camera with iOS 10 due to the fact sliding the lockscreen right (when manage center is not open) robotically transitions to the digital camera app.

iOS 10

this is a digital camera app shortcut we have visible on numerous Android telephones and it beats achieving for the bottom proper corner, wherein the digital camera shortcut remains in iOS nine. you use the camera app everyday, why not make it simpler to access?

What occurs whilst you swipe to the left on the lockscreen? happy you requested a second query. It well-knownshows a new spot for Apple’s today menu “widgets.” it’s not as customizable as Android widgets, but it’s new location a large development.
Graphical 3-D touch shortcuts

in the home display screen, 3-d Touching app tiles like pastime gives you a greater graphical account of your fitness goals. you may know quicker than ever that you have to close the ones day by day activity earrings.

iOS 10

ESPN had even richer shortcut statistics inside its three-D touch menu. It runs ratings and there is a button to without problems upload a widget. it’s even extra graphical, throwing up a drawn out play-by way of-play interface and video of in-development games you are following.

All of this peeking at apps can be completed with out leaving the house screen, and it way that 3-d contact is turning into a touch extra relevant in iOS 10.
talk to Siri typically

two billion requests per week undergo Siri, and it is now going to do “so much extra,” in line with Apple. With that, they announced that iOS 10 will open up Siri to 1/3birthday party developers.

iOS 10

Now you may be able to ask Siri such things as, “send a WeChat to Nancy announcing i’ll be five mins past due.'” it is able to be said kind of ways and still understood by means of the now-smarter Siri.

In (very literal) other words, Siri also works simply exceptional if you say it like “tell Nancy i’ll be 5 mins late with WeChat,” and even “Siri, are you able to shoot a message on WeChat and say i will be 5 minutes overdue?”

Siri for iOS 10, all of a unexpected, goes to be a whole lot less “Sorry…” for miscues. that is way to what Apple calls an “severe API,” which even functions in this new manner in its more than one languages.
Siri 0.33party apps

besides WeChat, Siri is ready for other chat apps, like WhatsApps and Slack, and journey hailing offerings like Uber, Lyft and Didi in China (which Apple invested in recently).

iOS 10

looking pictures thru apps like Shutterfly and Pinterest can be finished with your voice way to Siri, and you may start, pause and prevent fitness exercises with MapMyRun, Runtastic and RunKeeper.

Siri also can assist you ship cash to pals with Number26, rectangular and Alipay, or begin a VoIP name to inform your buddy why you are not paying them on time through Cisco Spark, Vonage and Skype.

iOS 10

This makes Siri a great deal extra beneficial now that Apple’s private assistant has damaged freed from pre-loaded apps, and makes riding a tiny bit safer way to messaging and VoIP integration for Apple CarPlay.
Siri-influenced QuickType keyboard

Apple’s on-screen QuickType keyboard can intelligently tell the distinction among what you are pronouncing and what computer systems usually suppose you’re pronouncing (however now not) thanks to greater superior Siri intelligence.

iOS 10

using deep learning kept locally, or what Apple calls “differential privateness,” iOS 10 is familiar with the broader context of what you’re typing, influencing the words within the idea bar above the keyboard.

It has higher context by means of taking into account the entire sentence, now not simply spitting out the subsequent guess based totally at the preceding word.

this may be absolutely choose-in, masked and stored on the tool, in keeping with Apple. it is different from Google’s facts-harvesting using its online servers.

QuickType is likewise adding a available button for your modern place every time someone asks “where are you?” or requests a person else’s contact information. That Contacts app will move similarly unused.

iOS 10

locally, Siri uses deep studying to research a verbal exchange and is able to pick up on you and a pal talking approximately food, a proposed time and resturant address, after which pre-fill in Calendar occasion when you go to add it to the Calendar app. “examine that, it is already midway stuffed in,” you will say.

Rounding out the QuickType iOS 10 capabilities is the capability to paste a current cope with you appeared up without having to copy it to the clipboard, do the equal for films and restaurants you’ve got searched and regulate in your multilingual typing.

it is Apple new “smooth button” for iOS 10, and it’s all about shortcuts to everyday sports.

iOS 10

pictures with superior pc imaginative and prescient

iOS 10

iOS 10 is going to utilize deep getting to know in order that it will likely be simpler to arrange photographs with what it calls “superior pc imaginative and prescient.” this is how Apple plans to rival Google snap shots.

again, stressing that it’s achieved locally, Apple touts the pix app’s capacity to create albums primarily based on face popularity, and might do the identical for item and scene reputation way to eleven billion computations. It also serves up a manner to peer photos overlaid on a map based totally on wherein they had been taken.

Apple plans to take pictures to the subsequent stage with recollections, which might be speculated to remind you of occasions in existence via clustering together pix into trips, humans and topics. It appears to have a pleasing magfashion interface i’m able to get at the back of.

iOS 10 can even permit you to bring together your captured photos and motion pictures of a particular reminiscence with a unique film it truly is cut mechanically. it is customizable, with some of temper choices and three length options, just if you do not want to fine music it your self.

no matter the AI-infused deep search and facial popularity competencies, Apple promises privateness safety.
Apple Maps is manner higher

iOS 10 fixes my biggest criticism about Apple Maps – its lack of ability to scroll in advance on a path. proper now, Maps annoyingly springs you returned for your modern vicinity each time you try and look anywhere else.

you may be loose to pan and zoom across the map with the new Apple Maps replace and the navigation software is likewise dynamically zooming in and out of long stretches and complex interchanges.

iOS 10

Maps for iOS 10 is including visitors on course to better compete with Google Maps and increasing its nearby capability with more factors of hobby that you could find alongside your path.

cars that supports Apple CarPlay not only get suggested exchange routes based on traffic situations, Maps’ turnby means offlip directions can pop up at the tool (if they have a display subsequent to the odometer).

Apple is weaving iOS 10 information from different apps into Maps, like if it knows you go to work at a certain time, it’s going to make a suggestion for the course, or make one primarily based on a calendar event deal with.

it is just the start. it’s also beginning up Maps to 0.33party developers, so Uber riders can name, comply with and pay for their experience without ever leaving Apple’s app. it’s getting there.
Apple music

Apple tune with iOS 10 is being redesigned for its 15 million paid subscribers, and it “allows the music to be the hero,” in keeping with Apple. It lets the cover art stand out.

iOS 10

It seems to be a far cleaner layout, highlighting cowl art nicely and suggesting tune that you may like in a extra logical fashion. however it is not going to excite you for iOS 10 if you‘re not a paid subscriber.

The Apple track refresh does upload a few extra depth by way of manner of lyrics (although it doesn’t appear to follow along with the phrases like other apps do, like SoundHound do).

The For You tab is does a higher job at curating your private playlists and it absorbs the connect tab that we formerly heard turned into getting a dwindled function. Likewise, the ‘New’ tab has turn out to be ‘Browse.’

iOS 10

iOS 10
Apple news

Apple news is reaching 60 million humans every month with 2,000 courses and it is in for a redesign, too. The For You tab now breaks news into personalized topics and hand-picked stories with the aid of editors.

news for iOS 10 can even introduce subscriptions so you can see each difficulty of country wide Geographic or examine the Wall avenue magazine, periodicals typically at the back of a paywall.

Breaking news notifications have been delivered to this pre-loaded app so that big stories appear proper at the iOS 10 lockscreen.
home app

Apple’s developer-targeted HomeKit is coming to endcustomers with iOS 10 (and additionally Apple Watch), and the brand new app appears proper at the homescreen unsurprisingly calleddomestic.”

7 Tips for a Successful Community Launch

7 Tips for a Successful Community Launch | Social Media Today

Online communities present multiple opportunities for enhanced business value. They create an experience that helps businesses achieve their goals, whether it’s acquiring new customers or increasing insight into consumer needs and wants. However, to have a successful community launch, companies must outline expectations, research best practices, and remain dedicated to community member needs.

Here are seven tips to help you set the foundation for a successful community.

1. WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY’S PURPOSE AND GOALS?

How do you plan to use your community? Define the purpose – knowledge management, Q&A, ideation, collaboration, self-service support – and clearly outline the goals of the community. Goals can include knowledge transfer, increased revenue, customer retention and lower support costs.

2. PINPOINT THE NEEDS OF YOUR AUDIENCE

You must understand your audience’s needs and wants and research how to position your community as a strong online resource. By analyzing the current situation, you will have the knowledge necessary to start relevant conversations, build relationships, and establish a foundation that will enable community growth.

3. INCORPORATE ENGAGEMENT

For an online community to succeed, it must be sustainable. That sustainability is created through engagement. Build a community where users are encouraged to engage and collaborate with one another, not just your online brand. Quality conversation adds value to the user experience, retains and attracts community members, and transforms members into brand advocates.

Further, use gamification – badges, reputation points, and expert status – to reward active members. This builds quality engagement and provides incentive for members to actively participate.

4. CREATE COMMUNITY AWARENESS

Think of your community as a new product – create some buzz and entice your audience to see what the excitement is about. This can easily be done on social media or in an email blast.

Also, no one will join your community if they can’t find it. Prominently display the community link on your website. Also, include the link in the footer of all company email communications. Visibility will drive traffic towards your community and keep it top of mind with new and existing users.

5. RESEARCH THE COMPETITION

Research is a vital component of community launch. Spend time on your competitor’s sites – how do the position themselves? How do they promote their communities? How do they attract members? What are the strengths and weaknesses of their communities? Incorporate this insight into your strategy as your build your community’s brand and create a strong (and unique) user experience.

6. APPOINT A COMMUNITY MANAGER

Community managers are the face and voice of a community. They work to achieve community goals by engaging with members, encouraging collaboration, and moderating activity. Because they know your community best, they can offer insight into the needs of your audience and deliver metrics on community health and success.

7. MONITOR KEY METRICS

By monitoring key metrics, you can tie community performance back to to business-level goals. This enables organizations to increase executive buy-in and prove a more impressive return on investment. Metrics of importance include:

  • How many new members join the community each week? Each month?
  • How many members leave?
  • Are new members actively participating?
  • What content has the most engagement (i.e. likes, up votes or comments)?
  • What content has the lowest amount of engagement?
  • What content topic is the most popular?
  • What content topic is the least popular?
  • What content is lacking on the site that members are requesting?
  • What content type is the most popular (i.e. video, Q&A, etc.)?

New Retina MacBook Pro 2016 release date, specs, rumours UK: Apple expected to launch new product line in June

When will the next MacBook Pro for 2016 come out? The Pro line-up is due for an update, isn’t it?

We think there could be new MacBook Pro models pretty soon. There are two sizes of MacBook Pro models available from Apple right now: a 13in model, which was last updated in March 2015, and a 15in model, last updated in May 2015. We had hoped for new MacBook Pro models on 21 March at Apple’s Spring event, but Apple didn’t mention Macs at all. You’ll find everything there is to know so far about new MacBook Pro 2016 models in this release date, specs and features rumour round-up.

Updated 7 April 2016 with general updates.

MacBook Pro 2016 UK release date: When is the new MacBook Pro coming out?

We had hoped for a new MacBook Pro at Apple’s 21 March launch event. Instead, we saw a new iPhone SE, iPad Pro with a smaller screen and new Apple Watch straps. Those things are all great, of course, but if you were after a new MacBook Pro then you’re out of luck.

Apple often launches new laptops at this time of year, and the 13in MacBook Pro model was last updated a year ago. (The 15in version is slightly younger.) Perhaps there will be a separate Mac event soon; perhaps we will have to wait until WWDC (Worldwide Developers’ Conference) on 13 June.

MacBook Pro 2016 UK price: How much will the new MacBook Pro cost?

Currently the cheapest Retina MacBook Pro costs £999. For the price you’ll get a 13in 2.7Ghz OS X machine that has 128GB of storage.

Prices go up in increments with £1199 and £1399 for the more feature rich 13in variants. The 15in model comes in two variants, a 2.2Ghz £1599 version and a 2.5Ghz £1999 variant.

We expect the new 2016 MacBook Pro to be launched in June at similar, if not identical prices of the current models.

MacBook Pro 2016 specs & hardware: What new features will the new MacBook Pro have?

The new MacBook Pro models are likely to feature Skylake processors, the new, sixth generation chips by Intel. Right now, none of Apple’s MacBooks offer Skylake so it’s highly likely that Apple plans to address this soon. Skylake will bring significant performance gains to the new MacBook Pro, too, making it an even faster machine.

Competitors including HP, Dell and Microsoft have already moved to Skylake, so Apple is beginning to look like it’s trailing behind.

Skylake could improve battery life, too, working with El Capitan to improve efficiency. The 13in Retina MacBook Pro already offers 10 hours of battery life and the 15in model offers 8 hours, but we’d like to see that improve to match the 12 and 9 hours offered by the MacBook Air.

The 15in models of the MacBook Pro currently offer quad-core i7 processors, which means they compare very favourably with the 27in iMacs. We hope that the 2016 model maintains these quad-core processors, but when the Mac mini was updated in October of 2014 it lost its quad-core processor options, which could spell the same fate for the MacBook Pro.

One MacBook Pro rumour doing the rounds goes as far as to say that the 2016 models will have a touchscreen, and that it might even be detachable from the screen a lot like the Surface Book. We’d be very surprised if this rumour is true, but anything’s possible.

In fact, we’re not expecting the design of the MacBook Pro to change much, if at all. It’s possible that a gold model will be launched, but Apple might reserve that for the12in MacBook, which could also see an update in March.
