Since the iPhone 8 is going to be the 10th anniversary model of the iPhone, it is really important for Apple that it stays behind the curtain. So with an aim to put an end to all the leaks, the Cupertino-giant recently held an hour long internal meeting. Ironically, it has been leaked as well. A publication named TheOutline has posted a recording of the seminar, which was called “Stopping Leakers – Keeping Confidential at Apple.”

The discussion was led by a trio of employees from the company’s General Security Division. The seminar saw faces like the director of Global Security, David Rice, Lee Freedman, Apple’s director of worldwide investigations, and Jenny Hubbert from the Global Security communications and training team. The seminar focused on how the company plans to stop the flow of information to competitors, counterfeiters and the press. According to the Apple CEO Tim Cook, these leaked information affects their sales to a great extent.

He says that some of the potential buyers of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not opting for the current models after hearing about the exciting specs line up of the upcoming iPhone 8. While Apple is taking actions to reduce the leaks, we don’t expect the leaks to stop immediately.

Well, from various benchmark sites to leaked images, the Meizu Pro 7 has been surfacing online for quite some time now. Recently, we also saw live images of the alleged device. Now, a new leak has revealed the exact date when the Meizu Pro 7 will launch. According to a website called anzhuo.cn, Meizu will take the wraps off its flagship phone on July 26. While it doesn’t come from an official source, we have previously seen rumors and leaks coming true. So there is a possibility that we will get to see the Pro 7 in a month. Talking about the features, the Meizu Pro 7 is likely to sport a not-so-large 5.2-inch AMOLED display with the resolution of 1080p.  Under the hood, it is said to employ a Deca-core MediaTek Helio X30 processor along with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM.

There will also be a large 3000mAh battery to keep the lights on. In addition to this, the phone is expected to run on Meizu’s own Flyme OS that is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. On the optics front, it is being assumed that the device will come with a rear dual camera setup. General Mills calls yogurt a growth business. The problem is, it hasn’t been growing.

So the company is looking to leverage Yoplait’s French heritage with hopes of igniting yogurt sales with a product its CEO has said will “bring an entirely new yogurt taste and texture to the U.S. market.” Oui by Yoplait is being touted as an artisanal product made and sold in glass pots, and will be sold in U.S. stores by July. Marketing will follow in August.

The debut comes years after General Mills, and the U.S. yogurt sector at large, was a bit blindsided by the popularity of Chobani and other Greek-style yogurts.

Last year, Chobani overtook Yoplait as the top yogurt brand in the U.S., according to Euromonitor International. In 2016 General Mills held a 19.4% share of the $9 billion U.S. yogurt market, trailing Chobani’s 21.8%, according to Euromonitor data. And the pain has persisted. Yoplait sales fell 20% in the last 52 weeks, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Matthew Grainger.

General Mills may discuss the declines in more detail when it reports fiscal fourth-quarter results on June 28, but executives have long said they needed to get back to innovation on yogurt. Speaking during a March conference call Jeff Harmening, who became CEO on June 1, said the new line would break new ground in the category with a unique taste and texture.

Oui is not the company’s only yogurt innovation. Months ago, it brought back Yoplait Custard and introduced two Greek-style products, Greek 100 Protein and Yoplait Dippers. General Mills also plays in the organic yogurt space with the Annie’s and Liberte brands.

With Oui, General Mills is going a bit back to basics. The French-style yogurt is being touted as thick and creamy, with non-GMO ingredients including whole milk, cane sugar, real pieces of fruit and yogurt cultures. The “artisanal” yogurt also comes at a higher price. A 5-ounce jar of Oui has a suggested retail price of $1.49, pitting it against the likes of Noosa and Siggi’s. A 6-ounce cup of Yoplait Original has a suggested price of 69 cents.

Eight flavors are being introduced: Strawberry, Blueberry, Black Cherry, Vanilla, Coconut, Lemon, Peach, and Plain. Emphasizing a clean-label approach, Oui does not contain any artificial sweeteners, preservatives, flavors or colors from artificial sources.

Its campaign will come from 72andSunny, a key General Mills agency which also works on the main Yoplait line. Previously, Yoplait’s account went from Saatchi & Saatchi to Wieden & Kennedy, which now works with rival Chobani. Oui’s marketing plans were not shared, though General Mills is already giving people one tip: don’t stir. Instead, it suggests Oui should be spoon cut.

Oui is made by pouring the ingredients into single-serve glass pots and letting them culture for eight hours, while most U.S. yogurt is cultured in large batches and then packaged in plastic tubs. The company said Oui was inspired by Yoplait’s Saveur d’Autrefois (or “taste of yesteryear”), which is sold in France.

Yoplait traces its history to 1965 when French dairy farmers from six co-ops joined together to sell their products and blended parts of the names of two of the co-ops, Yola and Coplait. General Mills got exclusive U.S. rights to the brand in 1977.

Targeting the small and medium business (SMB) enterprises, Google India Private Ltd will hold 5,000 offline workshops over the next three years, a company official said on Tuesday.

Addressing the media in Chennai, Shalini Girish, Director-Marketing Solutions, said the company with its online, offline and mobile training programmes is trying to bridge the digital gap experienced by the SMBs.

 

She said the offline training will be conducted jointly with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Over the next three years 5,000 workshops will be held across 50 Indian cities.

According to a study done by Google India and KPMG, digitally engaged SMBs grow twice as fast compared with offline SMBs.

Sony should do more to boost cross-platform gaming

Halfway through 2017, gamers have a new console from Nintendo to enjoy, a high-end option from Microsoft to look forward to, and increasing interest in VR titles. With these advances in hardware, it seems silly that Sony is pedaling backwards with its decision to keep PS4 gamers away from enjoying cross-platform titles.

Speaking to Eurogamer earlier this month, Jim Ryan, head of global sales and marketing for PlayStation, explained the company’s position:

We have a contract with the people who go online with us, that we look after them and they are within the PlayStation curated universe.

Exposing what in many cases are children to external influences we have no ability to manage or look after, it’s something we have to think about very carefully.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer isn’t buying the argument. In an interview with Giant Bomb, he pointed out that Microsoft owns one of the most family-friendly games around, and noted:

The fact that somebody would kind of make an assertion that somehow we’re not keeping Minecraft players safe, I found — not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective — like, I don’t know why that has to become the dialogue. Like, that doesn’t seem healthy for anyone.

It’s odd to see Sony avoiding participating in an important phenomenon in the future of multiplayer gaming. Heck, even Nintendo’s getting in on the action: earlier this month, American studio Psyonix announced that it’s bringing its beloved soccer-but-with-cars game, Rocket League, to the Switch this holiday season, with cross-platform support in tow.

The title works between PC and Xbox One, and between PC and PS4 – it’s just that the consoles currently can’t talk to each other, because Sony won’t allow it. According to Psyonix, if Sony gave the go-ahead, it could have Rocket Leaguerunning across platforms in “less than an hour.”

Psyonix’s Jeremy Dunham told Engadget that while Microsoft and Nintendo were quick to work with Psyonix to support cross-platform play, Sony has been stalling the conversation.

Of course, it almost certainly has to do with money: Sony is hammering Microsoft in sales, with a global install base of 60 million PS4s as of June vs. 26 million Xbox Ones that were last reported in January. As the market leader, it may not want to risk losing out on any customers buying a PS4 so they can remain in the PlayStation universe.

But it’s hard to be sure that that’s just how things will go. Last October, the Xbox One outsold the PS4 for the third month in a row in the US. Sony probably knows something we don’t about the future of console sales. The trouble is, that doesn’t help players.

As Dunham explained, granting gamers access to each other across networks would translate into faster matchmaking, better matches and access to better opponents, and therefore, more time spent on consoles and more chances to sell them things like DLC and cosmetic items.

Instead of fighting to stay exclusive, Sony would do well to explore ways in which it can capitalize on the opportunities that cross-platform gaming will present – increased longevity for multiplayer titles, bigger audiences for niche games, and more word-of-mouth promotion of games between owners of various consoles.

Apple’s AR is closer to reality than Google’s

Apple has often been accused of acting like it invented things that others have been doing for years. That complaint is not without merit, however Apple can lay claim to transforming existing things into mainstream successes, which takes no small amount of invention in its own right. Fingerprint authentication and contactless payments are just two recent examples, having both existed in Japan and on niche devices for over a decade before Apple raised them to global prominence with the iPhone.

Next up on Apple’s agenda is augmented reality, the act of superimposing digital data and visuals atop a live video feed of your surroundings — something that Google, Microsoft, and many others have been experimenting with for a long time. Apple is far from being able to claim it invented AR, but its new ARKit in iOS 11 is already showing signs to suggest that Apple will help bring AR into the mainstream faster and better than anyone else.

The chronic problem with augmented reality has always been one of practicality. You could have the most basic forms of AR on your regular phone, as provided by apps like Layar, which has been around since 2009, but those have never been particularly compelling. Or you could have more sophisticated and appealing augmentations, as presented by Google’s Tango project, but you’d need a big fat phablet to lug around to make them happen. Apple’s difference is to combine the convenience of your daily phone with the appeal of advanced AR.

Looking at this distance-measuring app, it seems so simple and obvious. Of course your super-powered, multi-core phone should be smart enough to measure out basic distances, and there have indeed been many wonky apps trying to do that in the past. But measuring with AR, as already shown off by Google Tango phones, allows you a much more intuitive method for doing it. Having the phone actually aware of the three-dimensional space in its view allows for precise measurements, which can be represented with a neat hologram of a measuring tape. Apple’s advantage in the contest for doing this best is simple: while Google Tango demands special hardware, ARKit requires only that you have a recent iOS device. At WWDC earlier this month, Craig Federighi described ARKit as “the largest AR platform in the world,” and he was right.

Apple’s AR will immediately reach millions of people who already have the requisite hardware. And while it looks to be functionally as flexible and capable as Google’s Tango (check out some early examples of fanciful experiments with ARKit), its broader audience makes it much more enticing for serious developers to invest their time and money into. Google’s Tango is about the future whereas Apple’s ARKit is about the present.

Considering how little time it took to develop two convincingly accurate AR measuring apps with the iOS 11 beta, and reading the comments from their makers, Apple also appears to have an advantage in the ease of development with ARKit. It’s exciting to think that there are still three months before the release of the next iPhone and the accompanying finalization of iOS 11, by which time Apple’s big-budget app developer partners are likely to have a deluge of AR-enabled apps for people to play with. That’s how stuff goes mainstream: as a big wave of change that touches everyone from casual Pokémon Go players to serious home DIY geeks figuring out how to arrange their living room furniture.

For the people who don’t care about incremental changes in phone specs or design, the differentiator between devices has always been in the unique things that each one can do — or, failing that, the convenience and ease of use of common features. Apple’s iPhone is more convenient than Google’s Project Tango devices and with iOS 11 it’ll have much better AR capabilities than its nearest premium Android rivals. So if we’re looking for the AR innovator that will take the technology into the mainstream, Apple once again looks like the likeliest suspect.

Spotify and Apple Music may soon find a new challenger in the music streaming service industry from an unlikely source: electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.

According to reports, Tesla has been speaking with the music industry on the possibility of creating its own music streaming service that will be bundled with its electric vehicles.

Tesla To Enter Music Streaming Scene?

Sources in the music industry claim that Tesla has spoken with all the major music labels on licensing a music streaming service. The service will be bundled with the company’s vehicles, such as the electric sedan Model S, the electric SUV Model X, and the upcoming mass-market electric sedan Model 3.

The full scope of Tesla’s ambitions was not made clear, but sources believe that the company is looking to offer multiple tiers for the planned music streaming service. The tiers will start with a web radio service, such as the one offered by Pandora, which will be enabled by the internet connectivity already present in Tesla’s electric vehicles through their dashboards.

The whole plan is seemingly not yet fully formed, but Tesla is already doing its due diligence by asking about acquiring the rights to stream albums and songs from the top artists from all over the world.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk actually hinted that the company was exploring music products at the latest shareholder meeting of the company in June. He said that it was difficult to “find good playlists or good matching algorithms” for music that drivers want to hear while on the road, and that the company will be announcing how it will solve the problem within the year.

Why Will Tesla Challenge Spotify And Apple Music?

The big question is why Tesla is planning to go through the trouble of creating its own music streaming service, when it can instead integrate Spotify or Apple Music into its electric vehicles. Tesla already has a deal in place to include Spotify in electric vehicles sold outside the United States, so such a setup can be done if the company wants to.

The labels will not turn down Tesla’s overtures if it pushes through with creating its own music streaming service, as it will be another source of revenue. From the comment of a Tesla spokesperson, it appears that the company is indeed serious about its plans.

“We believe it’s important to have an exceptional in-car experience so our customers can listen to the music they want from whatever source they choose,” the spokesperson said, adding that Tesla’s goal is to “achieve maximum happiness” for its customers.

While Tesla is considered as the market leader in the burgeoning electric car industry, it will be jumping into a music streaming space that is currently dominated by Spotify, with 50 million premium subscribers, followed by Apple Music, with 27 million paid users and looking to pose a bigger challenge to Spotify by launching a $99 annual subscription option.

How Tesla’s music streaming service will stand up against these two remains to be seen, but it will have to offer something beyond the usual features if it wants to make a significant impression in the industry.

How to use Gmail’s Google Tasks as your daily to-do list

Dedicated to-do apps abound, but one of the best may be right in your inbox. Google Tasks, integrated into Gmail, provides a simple way to create ordered task lists, complete with due dates, and even turn emails into action items. Here’s how to get started.

With Google Tasks you can create a to-do list right in your inbox.

To start building a to-do list, click the down arrow next to “Gmail” in the upper left corner of your inbox. The Tasks window will open in the lower-right corner. To add a task, click the plus icon at the bottom of the window. A blank field will open with a checkbox and a blinking cursor. Type in your action item.

If you want to add a due date or notes, click the arrow to the right of the task and enter the details in the appropriate fields.

Turn an email message into a task

You can type to-dos directly in your task list or add emails as action items.

You probably find that a good chunk of the emails you receive require some action from you. Google Tasks allows you to quickly turn these messages into to-do items without leaving your inbox.

To turn an email into a task, select the message either by selecting the checkbox next to it or opening it. Next, click the More button above your inbox and select Add to Tasks from the drop-down menu. The message is added to your to-do list using the subject line as the item name. A link to the original message is also included. As when you create a task, you can add a due date and other details by clicking the arrow next to the task.

Add sub-tasks

For more complex to-dos, you’ll want to break the main task into several sub-tasks. To do this, create each sub-task under the main task and hit the Tab button to indent each one.

You can add a due date and notes to any task by clicking the arrow next to it.

In addition to your daily task list, you may want to create separate lists dedicated to specific projects. To do this, click the Switch List icon (it looks like three bullets, each followed by a line) at the bottom of your main task list and select New list from the pop-up menu. Enter the name of your new list, then click OK and add your tasks. When you want to switch between lists, just click the Switch List icon and choose the one you want.

Print or email lists and other actions

To print or email a task list click the Actions button and select the appropriate option. From here you can also rearrange your tasks either by sorting them by due date or manually moving them up and down using the displayed key combos.

Chapter 13 is something of a departure from the bulk of the game, and many would argue that it detracts from the overall experience.

This particular section of Final Fantasy 15 sees protagonist Noctis separated from his party, trapped in a maze, and stripped of many of his most useful abilities. Rather than the role-playing road trip they were previously enjoying, players are forced to stealthily evade robots in a labyrinth of darkened corridors.

The game’s director, Hajime Tabata, has stated that Chapter 13 was intended to offer a jarring contrast to the rest of the game. However, he’s also admitted that his ideas weren’t executed perfectly, confirming that plans were in motion to tweak this particular section in a future update.

“The amount of stress inflicted on the player while running through this chapter was greater than we had anticipated,” Tabata explained while speaking to US Gamer earlier this month. “We believe resolving this issue will naturally lead to a better gameplay experience.”

Now, we now exactly when the update to Chapter 13 is scheduled to be released. During an Active Time Report livestream that took place yesterday, Square Enix confirmed that the update will drop on March 28, according to a report from Gematsu.

The company also revealed a major component of the changes being made to Chapter 13. Apparently, there will be a short section where Gladiolus Amicitia serves as the playable character — although it’s not completely clear whether this is actually part of Chapter 13, as the update is set to bring “enhancements” to various sections of the final stages of Final Fantasy 15.

It’s good to see Tabata and Square Enix responding to one of the sections of Final Fantasy 15 that has garnered the most criticism. Here’s hoping that next month’s update can remove some of its frustrating aspects while still retaining its larger role in the game’s narrative.
