Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s Last Zombies DLC Will Finish the Story

Treyarch senior executive producer Jason Blundell confirms that the upcoming fourth expansion pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops IIIwill conclude the Zombies storyline.

Treyarch introduced the unique Zombies mode to the gaming world in Call of Duty: World at War, and it became a surprise hit with fans. Eight years later, the Zombies story that began in 2008 is finally getting a proper ending in the fourth DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops III that will release at some point later this year.

This is according to Treyarch senior executive producer Jason Blundell, who promised that the new map coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops III with its fourth and final expansion will wrap up all the loose ends in the ongoing Zombies story. This will include addressing the cliffhanger from Call of Duty: Black Ops II‘s last Zombies map, Origin, and offering fans some well-deserved closure.

What else the final Zombies map will entail is anyone’s guess. Blundell is keeping tight-lipped on the matter for now, and indicated that there may even be some Treyarch employees that have been kept in the dark about the ending to Zombies. Apparently, Blundell begins the process of developing a Zombies map with just the Black Ops III gameplay director, lead writer, and himself before bringing in the rest of the team.

This level of secrecy should make sure that details on the ending aren’t leaked ahead of time. However, Blundell has at least given fans a hint about what to expect from the ending, stating it is “complex” and will “spark emotion” in veteran Zombies players. There is worry that this complex ending may cause some players to misconstrue the ending as Treyarch “trolling” its fans, but Blundell insists that is not the intention.

Treyarch seems to think that the ending will upset some players, but if the ending is disappointing, maybe the next Zombies mode will get it right. Even though Treyarch is closing the book on its current Zombies story, we know that the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will have Zombies, and the mode’s popularity means it will probably be a regular feature in Call of Duty games for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully Treyarch delivers a satisfying ending for fans that have toughed their way through all theextravagant Easter Eggs that have been featured in the many Zombies maps over the years. In the meantime, we will probably learn more about the final Zombies map within the next couple of months, and fans can expect it to release ahead of Infinite Warfare‘s launch on November 4th.
