Apple iOS 13.1.3 Is Causing Some New iPhone Charging Failures

Apple iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, iOS 13,

Uncovered by my old site TrustedReviews, a flurry of activity on Apple’s Official Support Communities forum (1,2,3,4,5.6,7 etc) and to @AppleSupport on Twitter reveals some iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max owners suffering from charging issues introduced by iOS 13.1.2 and are now being exacerbated by the new iOS 13.1.3 release. Some iPhone X and iPhone XS series phones are also being hit, but seemingly not in such large numbers.

“@AppleSupport why has the iPhone 11 stopped charging on wireless chargers? Charger is working fine with other devices…Restart does not work. Running 4 different types of wireless chargers none of them are working. 13.1.3..seems like a lot of people are having this same issue” – source

“@AppleSupport my iPhone is not charging since an update this morning. I’ve tried all the recommended tricks. Help!” – source

“@AppleSupport My phone quit charging right after the last software update” – source

“Why do I have to restart my new #iphone 11 Pro Max daily in order for wireless charging to work? @Apple @AppleSupport” – source

Apple iOS 13 Has 25 Great Secret Features

FORBES Gordon Kelly

“I have an iPhone 11 pro max.  When I first got it I could do wireless charging.  Now it will not charge from same wireless chargers.” – source

“Same problem around here. My $1300 I-phone 11 pro max does not charge wirelessly.” – source

The good news is some users have found restarting their phones can fix the problem but, unfortunately, this tends to be temporary for most and the phones need to be restarted every few days to keep charging. I contacted Apple about this, but the company declined to comment.

It is worth noting this problem is different to another wireless charging issue where iOS 13 restricts some 7W wireless chargers to 5W. Though, at this point, it seems like iOS 13 is capable of breaking just about anything.

All of which is a shame because, behind all the problems, iOS 13 is packed with great new features (and a number of secret ones too). A lot of pressure now rests on Apple’s major iOS 13.2 update, which is due out next month. But, for now, anyone who hasn’t upgraded to iOS 13, please stay where you are. For everyone who has, strap in because it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
